WHAT IS GELATO (jah-lah-toe) ?
A favorite in Italy for centuries, gelato is the Italian version of ice cream. It differs from other ice creams in several ways. Most ice creams on the market today have from 18 to 25% butter fat. In a 4 ounce serving size our cream flavored Divino gelato contains only 4 to 7% fat, 130-170 calories, and our fruit flavors contain less than 1% fat with 120-160 calories.
With significantly less butterfat, the flavor is intensified because fat tends to coat the tongue and block the taste buds. Gelato has less air whipped into it; therefore it is more dense and smoother in texture. Gelato is more nutritious than regular ice cream. Divino gelato contains no egg yolks, and much less sugar than most sherbets, frozen custards, and yogurts. Our fruit flavors are water-based with absolutely no dairy products.
Here at Divino Gelato Café, our gelato is made fresh every day on the premises, just like they do in Italy.
We have 24 delicious flavors to choose from. We are sure you will find a favorite among them. Divino, meaning “heavenly” in Italian, is exactly what our gelato is …
(A spoonful of heaven!)
